WHO SPOOKED
|
|
Halloween Night. The investigator is out trick or treating with their friends. When suddenly the evil Witch Warty One swoops down on her broomstick, grabs them, and flies them back to her castle lair.
Someone in her castle has cast a petrification spell over her beloved black cat and familiar, Spook. He has been turned into stone and hidden in one of the rooms of the castle. Witch Warty One demands to know who did it. She demands to know which magical artefact they used to cast the spell. And she demands to know where Spook has been hidden. Having heard of the puzzle book recipient's reputation for intelligence, she has kidnapped them so that they will solve the mystery for her. Success means that she will fly them back home. Failure means she will unleash a specially brewed personalised cauldron curse upon them for evermore.

Solving the puzzles will allow the investigator to eliminate suspects, magical artefacts and hiding places until only the guilty items remain.
However the six underlined puzzles are the suspects' own personal puzzles. The investigator will need to be on their guard, as the suspect who actually enchanted Spook will be deliberately providing a puzzle where the solution provides misinformation. After all, they don't want to be caught!

OTHER ITEMS TO DISCOVER
As well as solving the mystery, the investigator will need to try and answer the following four questions:
- What horrible curse will Witch Warty One cast over them, should they fail to find Spook?
- What inspirational figure will they see when they peer in the magic mirror?
- What motivational and encouraging message will they find within the spooky spiral?
- What personal attributes/skills do they have that will enable them to overcome the terror trail?
TWO BOOKS EACH WITH A DIFFERENT SOLUTION
There are two different books to choose from - Book 1 and Book 2. Each book has a different solution. For instance in book 1 Count Japes might have petrified Spook with the bewitched broom and hidden him in the spell book library. While in book 2 Belladonna might be the culprit, using the pungent potion and hiding Spook in the kitchen. Also, where possible, the individual puzzles within the books have different solutions.
This enables you to give a copy of "Who spooked Spook?" to two people living in the same house and each of them will still have their own unique challenge.

MERRYMURDER SWEEPSTAKE
There is also provision in the book to have a merrymurder sweepstake. Before puzzling commences, interested parties can draw suspects, magical artefacts, and hiding places from a hat. When the solution is discovered, those people who drew the guilty suspect, artefact, and hiding place can each claim a small prize.
